The Syrian refugees continue to arrive in Canada.
A jetliner carrying 214 refugees landed Friday at Toronto's Pearson Airport after a flight from Beirut.
Almost 15-hundred Syrians have come to Canada since the Trudeau government took office early last month.
The government plans to resettle 25-thousand Syrians by the end of February, 10-thousand of them by year's end.
David Petrasek is a former special adviser to the Secretary-General of Amnesty International.
He says there are things beyond the government's control.
"Renewed fighting in Turkey, in the southeast, has created security problems for Canadian staff who need to be to be interviewing refugees. That just means they can't do it. Flights into certain places can't go to bring refugees. The are a whole set of other factors that are beyond the government's control", said Petrasek.
He added "scaling up" the resettlement program is what matters, that it continue.
"Whether we get 10,000 by the 31st or by the 7th of January, frankly, I don't it's that important. I think the point is to keep the scaled up program running", said Petrasek.
Petrasek was a guest on CJAD's "Viewpoints" on Saturday.
